Shaping the Town Together
Grimsby has secured £20 million over the next ten years. It’s a huge opportunity and what makes it even more exciting is the way it’s being shaped, together.
Grimsby is part of the Government’s Pride in Place programme, overseen by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG). It spans 339 areas across the UK, backed by a total fund of £5 billion, with up to £20 million available per area over 10 years. A key focus of the programme is ensuring that communities are actively involved in deciding how and where the funding is allocated.
The Grimsby Fund
At the third of three public events held since June, residents from across Grimsby came together to hear about progress so far, the ambitions for the town and how the funding could be used to achieve those goals.
Grimsby is doing things differently, setting a national example with the ambition to create a Grimsby Fund – owned by the people of the town, for the people of the town. Rather than flowing through the local authority, this separate fund will attract additional support and ensure investment lasts beyond the ten-year horizon of Pride in Place funding.
With MHCLG sign-off expected in December, plans are now underway to create the fund.
Citizen-Led Working Groups
Our Future put out an open call for nine working groups, focused on key themes such as housing, the environment and connected town centre. Locals responded with passion, sharing their love for Grimsby, their commitment to the town, and their enthusiasm for the positive changes already underway. The plan is that there will be ongoing engagement and development of the citizen-led working groups.
