We’re delighted to welcome Sarah O’Meara as Head of Communications

Welcoming Sarah to Our Future

We’re excited to welcome Sarah O’Meara to the team as our new Head of Communications.

Sarah is a communications professional with a journalism background, focused on mission-driven work. That experience will strengthen Our Future’s work as we tell the story of what’s possible when communities take the lead and shape the future of their towns.

Most recently, Sarah was Interim Head of Communications at New Local, an independent think tank and membership network of 50 local authorities working to drive community-powered, place-based public sector reform.

Before that, she built the communications function at UCL’s International Public Policy Observatory (IPPO), a research programme set up to scan effective policy responses to the pandemic across the globe.

She has also worked as a communications consultant for the academic news publisher The Conversation, and spent over a decade as a journalist and editor, including as Managing Editor at Sixth Tone in Shanghai and contributor to titles including Nature, The Atlantic, and The Telegraph.

As Our Future continues to grow, Sarah will be leading our communications work, helping us tell powerful, practical stories about citizen-led change, and building the systems and narrative that support our next phase of growth.

In Sarah’s own words:

“This role offers an exceptional opportunity to join a team with huge ambition, at a time when there’s real appetite for shifting power away from Westminster to communities.

I’ve seen firsthand how communities can thrive when they’re given the right conditions for change, and I’m excited to help build this movement from the ground up.”

As we continue to grow Our Future’s impact, we’re delighted to have Sarah on the team and look forward to the stories she’ll help us tell.
