Our Future recently hosted a small gathering at Milnrow Cricket Club for people in Rochdale to have a drink, share thoughts and talk openly. We discussed the Borough’s strengths, challenges and what a positive future might hold.
The session brought together people from local businesses, voluntary organisations, public services and residents. Everyone came with a genuine interest in the borough and a willingness to work together. It was encouraging to meet people already active in the community but looking for ways to do more. It was also valuable to hear fresh perspectives on how we can support each other.
We are still collecting notes, but here are a few things that stood out during the event
- “I’m excited to be part of something new.”
- “There are great things happening but they’re not connected. People need something they can get behind.”
- “We need to rewrite our story and that can only happen together.”
- “I want to keep talking. This has sparked ideas and new ways to connect.”
There was interest in setting up a WhatsApp group to keep the conversation going, which we will be looking into. We also heard requests for future meet-ups including bringing friends along and continuing these important discussions.

Huge thanks to Milnrow Cricket Club for hosting the session. As well as being a fantastic sporting venue serving generations of families since 1892, it’s also a great place for corporate and social events.
